DH82 cells infected with Ehrlichia canis (Ebony strain) isolated from a canine carrier. Host cells and E. canis morulae were visualized with differential interference contrast and immunofluorescence assay, respectively, and the was image captured by Mr William Bremer at Ohio State University, Columbus, OH, USA. Work with Ehrlichia chaffeensis, a closely related zoonotic pathogen, is described in the paper by delos Santos et al. in this issue, pp. 1660–1668.
