About the Cover

Cover Figure

Culture of Klebsiella pneumoniae subsp. ozaenae on chocolate agar (bottom) and on CLED (top) plates. Colonies are mucous. The distinction between K. pneumoniae subsp. ozaenae and K. pneumoniae subsp. pneumoniae is based on the Voges--Proskauer test, which is negative for K. pneumoniae subsp. ozaenae. This bacterium is implicated in ozena (atrophic rhinitis), but also in pulmonary infections, bacteraemia and intra-abdominal abscess. Image supplied by P. Lanotte, B. Cattier, A. S. Sauget, A. Goudeau and L. Mereghetti (Laboratoire de Bacteriologie & Virologie, Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Tours, France).
