Expression of biofilm-associated genes of Streptococcus mutans in response to glucose and sucrose, by M. Shemesh, A. Tam and D. Steinberg

Journal of Medical Microbiology vol. 56, part 11, pp. 1528 - 1535

Supplementary Fig. S1
Depth analysis of live/dead stained biofilms. S. mutans GS5 were grown in different media, stained with LIVE/DEAD BacLight fluorescent dye and analysed with CLSM. The reconstruction of cross-section images of generated biofilms is shown for: (a) unsupplemented TY, (b) TY supplemented with 10 g sucrose l-1, (c) TY supplemented with 40 g sucrose l-1, (d) TY supplemented with 2 g glucose l-1, (e) TY supplemented with 10 g sucrose l-1 and 2 g glucose l-1, (f) TY supplemented with 40 g sucrose l-1 and 2 g glucose l-1, (g) unsupplemented BHI, (h) BHI supplemented with 10 g sucrose l-1, (i) BHI supplemented with 10 g sucrose l-1. Dead cells were stained red, while live cells were stained green. Data presented here are representative of three independent experiments. [PDF file] (3171 KB)
